Well, the results are now in, and unfortunately I haven’t been elected as one of your MHKs.
Of course I’m disappointed, but more than anything I’m incredibly grateful. To everyone who voted for me, supported me, stopped to have a conversation, opened their door, shared their experiences or simply took the time to listen to what I had to say, thank you.
As I said before polling day, this was never about wanting a political title. I stood because I care deeply about this Island, its people and its future, and because I wanted the opportunity to put my experience to use and give something back to the community I call home.
This campaign has pushed me well outside my comfort zone, taught me a great deal and introduced me to people whose paths might otherwise never have crossed mine. Some of the conversations I’ve had will stay with me for a very long time, and although the result wasn’t the one I’d hoped for, I don’t regret putting myself forward.
Whatever happens next, the values I spoke about throughout this campaign haven’t changed. I’ll still be the same straightforward, practical person who believes in identifying a problem, finding a solution, doing a job properly and looking after the people around you.
To everyone who placed their trust in me, and to everyone who has supported me throughout this process, thank you. It’s been an experience I certainly won’t forget.
